Fly fishing for trout in western Sichuan, on the Tibetan plateau, requires no special permit for a foreign angler. The high-altitude torrents hold white-spotted char and snow trout (Schizothorax). One species is never a target here or anywhere: the Sichuan taimen, critically endangered.
