Fly fishing for trout in western Sichuan, on the Tibetan plateau, requires no special permit for a foreign angler. The high-altitude torrents hold white-spotted char and snow trout (Schizothorax). One species is never a target here or anywhere: the Sichuan taimen, critically endangered.

A high-altitude torrent, the kind of water fished on the Tibetan plateau of Sichuan.

White-spotted char (genus Salvelinus), recognisable by the white leading edges of its fins. Systematic catch and release.
